The USPL was founded in January of 2006. The idea for the USPL,
and its version of team poker, in general,
spawned from a Seattle area poker league,
Puget Sound Poker. To try something new, a
team tourney was organized in January of
2004 and quickly became the most popular
event of each season.
Teams are formed in several
ways. Most teams establish a
General Manager who then tries
to recruit local talented
players willing to buy-in and
represent their home town. Some
GM's organize local satellites
to add players, while others go
about finding a sponsor to buy
the teams seats so they can be
filled strictly with
professional players.
To join a team, the best way
is to go to their
team page and contact the
team's General Manager and
express your interest. For teams
that do not yet have a General
Manager,
contact the league office.
Can I buy-in direct and
for how much?
Information on how to join will be available soon in upcoming announcements.
There will be a Poker Bowl 2 . . . and 3 . . . and more, and more, and more. The new ownership will be announcing a complete schedule in the near future. So stay tuned.
What is the minimum age
required to participate?
Because it
is held in a casino, you must be
21 or older by the start of
PokerBowl 2 to participate.
Buying a team is a
fairly simple
process and the
league will provide
the necessary forms,
procedures, etc.
There are several
benefits to owning a
team, such as the
power to decide on
personnel, team
nickname and team
attire. Teams also
generate revenue
from sponsors and
the league's TV
revenue sharing
plan.
How much does
it cost to buy a
team?
The price of a
team can vary based
on how many
PokerBowl seats (up
to 6) are to be
included. Some
owners elect to not
only buy the
franchise, but all
six PokerBowl seats
to take it
completely off the
market. If
interested in team
ownership,
contact the league
office for more
information.
What is
involved with
Sponsoring a team?
Companies that
are interested in
advertising via team
attire usually
purchase the team
they are interested
in, giving them the
right to have all
players wear their
company gear for
PokerBowl I and
beyond. However, if
the team they want
to sponsor is
already owned, they
must contact the
owner to try and
arrange a
sponsorship.
My company is
interested in
sponsoring the
PokerBowl, but
not a particular
team.
There are
several ways to
include your
company brand in
the PokerBowl
other than team
sponsoring. To
find out more,
send an email to
info@uspokerbowl.com
Owners can buyout some or all of their team's six PokerBowl seats. The reason for this is so they can recruit professional players to join their roster at a discounted price or for free. In exchange, the free agent would agree to share team winnings with the owner.
Can Players be traded similar to other sports leagues?
Yes, eventually teams will be allowed to make trades with other teams.

Which Television Network Will Broadcast the PokerBowl™?
Team Poker is an interesting variation of poker allowing a limited degree of soft play and teamwork between players. The format used for team play guarantees action down to the wire and provides a new dimension to the popular pastime.
Do players bring the same amount of chips to the final table that they started with or do the chip stacks reset to an even amount for all players?
Players that advance to the final table will bring the same chip stack that they ended play with at their original table.
What determines the winning Team?
Its no different than regular tournaments. The last team to have at least 1 player still playing (all other teams have 0 player or less) is the winner. If only teammates are left in the tourney, there is no need to continue play as the team has clinched the victory.
If my teammates are all eliminated, can my team still win the event?
Every team still has a chance to win the tournament as long as at least 1 player from their roster remains. If you can manage to win the final table, you will earn the victory for your team.
What prevents collusion between teammates?
In Team Poker, collusion is a part of the strategy to a certain extent. Teammates might get the chance to transfer chips from one player to another but run the risk of it being intercepted. Although softplay and teamwork is allowed, signaling between teammates in any form is not allowed.
Will there be a PokerBowl II and will the same teams return in 2009?
Information on PokerBowl 2 will be announced soon.
Will there ever be any teams from other countries?
Because Poker is an international phenomenon, future expansion teams might include teams from Europe, Asia, Australia, etc.
Is the PokerBowl the only event of the USPL?
The PokerBowl is the main event of the USPL, but other events will likely be organized during the off-season. Possibilities include a College version of the PokerBowl and a national 'individual' (non-team) competition featuring USPL cities.
